Milk first or last?
The milk question! This ageless question is almost as difficult as getting the Chicken and the Egg in the right order. If a dash of milk is added to a cup of tea then as the first drop hits the surface of the hot tea the cold milk scalds. If the milk is in the cup when the first drop of hot tea (from a pot) or hot water (if making in a cup) hits it, the temperature of the milk is raised less quickly and doesn't scald. The two teas look and taste a bit different, but it's up to you!
Tea is NOT dehydrating
We commonly forget that tea is 99.5% water and is actually hydrating. Many of us believe that as tea contains caffeine it is a diuretic. What we don't realise is that unlike coffee, the level of caffeine in a cup of tea is so low that you can have 6 cups per day without any duiretic effect.
Adding milk to tea is still healthy
There have been numerous in-depth studies conducted on thousands of people which prove that drinking tea has positive benefits on health, regardless of the inclusion of milk. Adding milk delivers extra calcium, zinc and potassium. Tea is a naturally rich source of antioxidants and is a natural source of theanine.
