Feet up, caffeine down

Becoming a new mum can be a very busy time – with baby clothes to buy, doctors checks to go to and of course deciding on that all important name. As a result it's essential to make time for yourself – and what better way to relax than by putting your feet up with a refreshing cup of Tetley tea.

However, during your pregnancy it's important to keep track of your daily caffeine intake. The Food Standards Authority recommends a maximum of 200mg per day, as too much caffeine has been linked to lower birth weights and an increased risk of miscarriage (British Medical Journal, Nov 2008). This is because caffeine remains in your body for longer when you're expecting and can't be processed easily by your baby's system.

So how much caffeine does your favourite drink contain? The highest amounts of caffeine can be found in filter coffee, closely followed by instant coffee. Thankfully a mug of regular Tetley tea contains around half the caffeine of a filter coffee, meaning you can still drink 2 cups a day and stay within your daily limit.

But why limit yourself? If you don't want to count your cups both Tetley Decaf and Tetley Redbush are delicious alternatives with bags of taste and none of the caffeine.
