Tea should be made with boiling water, and only once-boiled water with a low mineral content if possible. If using a teapot, warm the teapot before adding the tea. Use one tea bag for each cup. For Black tea, pour the water as soon as it’s boiled to deliver the best taste.

For Green tea, allow the kettle to cool for up to two minutes before pouring over the tea bag.

For teas that take milk, add the milk, (2% is recommended), after the water to avoid hindering the infusion process. Leave the tea bag in for at least two minutes to let the flavour of the tea infuse, but this is a personal preference.

After removing the tea bag, leave the brew to cool for two minutes for a better quality taste.

Certain ingredients when utilized do not deliver the expected taste profile when they're dried as opposed to fresh.

Due to this, we utilize natural flavouring in some of our teas to deliver the taste profile that consumers expect.

Natural flavours are extracted from spices, fruits, herbs or other natural sources. They are either wholly or mainly from the named flavour e.g. orange or can be a blend of extracts from different plants to give the desired flavour notes.

most of our teas carry best before dates of between 18 to 36 months, the period when it will retain optimal flavour and intensity. Tea can be kept and used for longer if stored in a cool dry place in an airtight container.

Our plant-based tea bags are industrially compostable via food waste collection programs. However, we recommend checking with your local council as collections differ depending on where you live.

We are actively working to convert all our tea bags to plant-based. This will be a gradual process across our approximately 200 product lines. Our goal is to achieve a seamless transition without sacrificing quality. Currently our core black tea range is plant-based, however we are looking to convert the rest as soon as possible.

Tetley teas are made in accordance with all relevant regulations and standards relating to materials and plastics in contact with food and are safe to enjoy.

Most tea bags are made from paper tissue with a small amount of plastic, whether derived from fossil fuels or plant based, which enables two sides of tissue to be heat sealed to keep the tea in the bag. People around the world have been safely enjoying our tea made from heat sealed bags for the last 80 years.

The caffeine content in our teas varies depending on the blend, origin, and preparation method.

On average, a 250ml cup of Tetley black tea contains 30–50mg of caffeine, while Tetley decaffeinated tea contains approximately 2.5mg. Green and black teas, both derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant, have similar caffeine levels, influenced by brewing time, stirring, and the amount of tea used.

Caffeine extraction is highest in the first minute of brewing and decreases thereafter. Manual compression (e.g., squeezing the tea bag) can increase caffeine release.

Rooibos tea (also known as Red tea) is naturally caffeine free. Herbal teas are mostly also caffeine free, although there are some herbal ingredients that do contain caffeine (such as yerba mate or guarana seeds).
